5.0 out of 5 stars Great Company, Great Food, August 20, 2010
This review is from: Harmony House Foods Dried Vegetable Sampler (15 Count, ZIP Pouches) for Cooking, Camping, Emergency Supply, and More (Misc.)
I started ordering from Harmony House while deployed. As a vegetarian, I wasn't getting ANY protein from our deployed kitchen (lots of burgers and other nastiness, ick), and a friend suggested this company. Freeze-dried food did not appeal to me, but at that point, I was prepared to eat anything that would keep me from wasting away. What a great surprise that this stuff was actually, really GOOD. I've had several different flavors, and especially love their soups, but everything I've tried has tasted good (and vegetarian).

The only thing I'm curious about is how these qualify as emergency supplies? I guess, like they said, you can soak them overnight to re-hydrate, but everything I've eaten has been simmered in a crock pot. I don't know if cold vegetables would taste very good. However, if you keep a kerosene stove with your emergency rations, that could solve your problem too.

Bottom line--healthy food, tastes good. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!!!!, October 7, 2010
This review is from: Harmony House Foods Dried Vegetable Sampler (15 Count, ZIP Pouches) for Cooking, Camping, Emergency Supply, and More (Misc.)
oH MY Gosh! I can't believe how good this is. I just got the package and decided to make one of the simple recipes included in the kit. Well........it was Amazing!!! It was so good I had to stop myself form making more! I know I will end up eating all the food in the package before my camping trip (I got to try them all...just to be sure I like it, of course ;0) I have already decided that I NEED to have these in the house- just in-case of an emergency. Oh, and I also tried the beefish bits, ummmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm going to make me some more, I don't care, I'll just have to order more tomorrow.

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Harmony House Foods Dried Vegetable Sampler (15 Count, ZIP Pouches) for Cooking, Camping, Emergency Supply, and More (Misc.)
I just ordered this a week ago along with Peggy Layton's book Emergency Food Storage and Survival Handbook. What a great pair! The book has tons of recipes for using dehyrated food, including a fantasic one for a fast Chicken Noodle soup. You just add the dried ingredients (celery, carrots, onions, peas) include some noodles and a touch of flour to a a pot of chicken broth, bring it to a boil and simmer for 25 minutes. It turned out perfect. My family LOVED it. The dehydrated food sampler is a great way to start experimenting with dehydrated food to use for emergencies or EVERDAY! I will certainly be buying more dehydrated vegetables from Harmony House Foods to make cooking faster and easier. When you think about all the time and effort washing and chopping and discarding of waste you are avoiding, using dehydrated food makes sense especially on busy days when you still want nutritious food. The extended storage life of dehydrated foods is a real plus as well.
